Regional Consultative Councils provide the forum where delegates from local consultatives can meet regularly to discuss matters of common interest, co-ordinate activities, and agree approaches to issues affecting the region’s fisheries as a whole. Much of the work of Regional Consultative Councils involves close liaison with the Environment Agency and the boundaries of Regional Consultative Councils correspond with those of the Agency’s regions.
Matters being debated by the Environment Agency’s Regional Fisheries, Ecology and Recreation Advisory Committees (RFERACs) are also considered by the Regional Consultative Councils. Members of the Agency’s RFERACs are often drawn from delegates to Regional Consultative Councils because of their wide experience and knowledge of fisheries in the Region and the extent of their contacts with angling and fisheries interests. Regional Consultative Councils offer RFERAC members the opportunity to listen to the views of the angling public about current issues. Regional interests of the National Federation of Anglers, Salmon & Trout Association, British Disabled Anglers’ Association, and where appropriate regional sea angling interests are also welcomed at Regional Consultative Council meetings.
Regional Consultative Councils are responsible for co-ordinating the election of Regional Representatives to the NAFAC National Council.
